MINUTES
A. CALL TO ORDER
The Public Safety Forum of the Maplewood City Council was held in the Maplewood
Room, City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Bastian at 5:04 p.m.

C. PUBLIC SAFETY FORUM
Mayor Bastian welcomed the participants and stated that the purpose of the Forum
was to evaluate where the Public Safety Department was currently and what kind of
future did the City envision for the department. He introduced the facilitator, Mr. Bill
Bruen of the Fire Information, Research, and Education Center (F.I.R.E.), Minnesota
Technical College System.
Mr. Bruen defined the process that he planned to use at the forum: identify, prioritize
and resolve public safety issues and gather data to define the decided course of
action.

The Forum was recessed at 5:15 p.m. to allow participants to individually list their
priority issues.
At 5:31 p.m. the Forum was reconvened. Names of the participants were randomly
selected to present their first issue, and thereafter, participants offered additional
issues in seated order.
At 6:55 p.m., the Forum was recessed.
At 7:10 p.m., the Forum was reconvened.
Following considerable discussion, it was the consensus of the group that Mr. Bruen
would document the issues and mail them to the participants. Forum members are
requested to rank the issues in order of preference (1 being the most important) and
return the paperwork to Mr. Bruen before the next meeting.
Councilmember Zappa moved that the next meetinca of the Public Safety Forum be
scheduled for Wednesday, June 2. 1993. 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. The motion was seconded
by Mayor Bastian and was approved.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
