Friday,August 17, 2018 Maplewood City Hall –Council Chambers A.CALL TO ORDER A meeting of the City Council was held atthe Maplewood City Hall –Council Chambers and was called to order at4:17p.m. byActing Mayor Smith. B.PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE C.ROLL CALL Nora Slawik, MayorAbsent Marylee Abrams, CouncilmemberPresent Kathleen Juenemann, CouncilmemberPresent Bryan Smith, Acting MayorPresent Tou Xiong, CouncilmemberPresent D.APPROVAL OF AGENDA CouncilmemberAbramsmoved to approve the agenda as submitted. Seconded by CouncilmemberXiongAyes-Acting Mayor Smith, Council Members Abrams, Juenemann and Xiong The motion passed. E.UNFINISHED BUSINESS None F.NEW BUSINESS 1.Canvassing the Municipal Results of the August 14, 2018 Primary Election City Clerk Sindt gave the staff report and answered questions of the council. Councilmember Abrams moved to approve the resolution canvassing the municipal results of the August 14, 2018 Primary Election Seconded by CouncilmemberXiongAyes-Acting Mayor Smith, Council Members Abrams, Juenemann and Xiong Resolution 18-08-1597 Canvassing Results of Primary Election WHEREAS, a StatePrimary Election was held on August 14, 2018; August 17, 20181 City Council Special Meeting Minutes WHEREAS, the ballot included five candidates for two Maplewood councilmember positions, both four (4) year terms; WHEREAS, the city council shall serve as the canvassing board, canvass the results and declarethe results of the election; WHEREAS, four candidates for councilmember shall move on to the State General Election which will be held on November 6, 2018; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of Maplewood, Ramsey County, Minnesota, acting as a canvassing board on August 17, 2018, hereby declares: 1.The following results from the August 14, 2018, State Primary Election as specified by the Abstract and Return of VotesCast: Councilmember Candidates: Marylee Abrams2044 Kevin Berglund1417 Tyler Hamilton1159 Kathleen A. “Kathy” Juenemann2393 Nikki Villavicencio1497 2.The four candidates who received the highest number of votes in the Primary Election are Marylee Abrams, Kevin Berglund, Kathleen A. “Kathy” Juenemann and Nikki Villavicencio and shall have their names placed on the ballot for the November 6, 2018 State General Election without partisan designation. 3.The clerk is hereby directed to certify the results of the election to the county auditor.
