THE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF MAPIAWOOD DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Maplewood Code is hereby amended by adding thereto a new Chapter as follows - "819. 'DANCING AND DANGS HALLS. 819.010. PERMIT IEQUTRED. No person, group, association, corporation, or other soonvor shall conduct a public dance in the village of maplewood without first obtaining from the Village Clerk a permit authorizing such dance as herein after provided. 819.020. APPLICATION. Every person desiring to obtain a permit to conduct a public dnnre in Maplewood shall suhmit an application to the Clerk which application shall be in the form designated try the Clerk and shall require the name of the applicant, the street num6er of the premises wherein it is proposed to conduct arch dance, deecription of the premises indicated, which floor it is located upon and giving the area of the dance floor In square footage, stating whether or not the applicant has previously conducted a dance in Maplewood and if so, when and where, whether or not the applicant has ever been convicted of any violation of Minnesota Statutes 617.42 through 617.54 relating to public dance halls, and such other information as the application may indicate. Upon completion of the applinprion, it shall be verified by the applicant a0d the Clark shall refer the application to the Health Inspector, Fire Marshal and building Inspector. No permit shall be issued before the Health Inspector, Fire Marshal and Building Inspector certify to the Village authorities that die place complies with all requirements acrd regulatinis as to matters pertaining to health and safety and the Clerk shall also submit the application to the Chief of Police, who shall endorse thereon his approval or disapproval of the issuance of auch permit. 819.030. ISIUKNCE OF FZkMIT, The Village Council upon receiving application for dance permit shall determine whether or not the permit is to be issued and the Council may, in its discretion, establish such rules and regulations as to the issuance of permits as it deems advisable under this code. Such regulation may provide for the Clerk to issue the permit under certain conditions without referring the avplication to the Council. 819.040. FEES. The fees for a dance permit shall be as follows., Area of less than 4,000 square feet $ 0.00 Area between 4,000 and 7,000 square feet $10.00 Area more than 7,000 square feet $25.0() The permits issued pursuant to thin section and requiring fees as set forth herein, may authorize Puch dance to be conducted for one day. 819.050. NON-PROFIT ORGWANIZATIONS. Any lodge or society not organized or maintained for profit, desiring to conduct public dances shall make written application for permit to do so. Such application ahall be in the same form as prescrihed by section 819.020 in so far as the same shall be applicable and shall also he referred to the officers designated in 6ection 819.021 for examination and report. NO -PROFIT ORGANIZA- TIONS. Any lodge or society not or- ganized or maintained for profit, de- siring to conduct public dances shall make written application for permit to do so. Such application shall be in the same form as prescribed by Section 819.020 in so far as the same shall be applicable and shall also be referred to the officers designated in Section 819.020 for examination and report. The Coun- cil may, in its discretion, authorize such non-profit organization to conduct a public dance or dances without payment of fee, in which event, it shall authorize and direct the Village Clerk to issue the permit. 819.060. GOOD CHARACTER AND REPUTATION REQUIRED. No permit to conduct a dance shall be issued to any applicant who is not a person of good moral character and reputation in the community in which he lives nor to any applicant who has within the last five (5) years preceding the appli- cation been convicted of a felony or a gross misdemeanor."
