'.:'his ordinance shall be in effect from and after its passage :-*16 publication as provided by law, except that if within thirty (30) days �.fter puali- cation of this ordinance, a petition asking for a public referendum is signed b, - voters equal to l?7 of the number of voters voting at the last Village election and filed with the Clerk, this ordinance may be suspended by a majority vote at the next regular election, as provided by lags of 1961, Chapter 230. THE VILLAGE COUNCIL, OF THE VILLAGE OF MAPLEWOOD DOES HEREBY ORDAIN: Section 1. The office of constabl! is hereby abolished within the Village of Maplewood. Section 2. This ordinance shall be in effect from and after its passage and publication as provided by law; except that if within thirty (80) days after publication of this ordinance, a petition asking for a public referendum is signed by voters equal to 10%a of the number of voters at the last Village election and filed with the Clerk, this ordinance may he suspended by a majority vote at the next regular election, os provided by Laws of 1961, Chapter 250.
