AN ORDINANCE REGULATING SOLICITORS, DEFINING SOLICITORS,
AND PROVIDING PENALTY FOR ANY VIOLATION THEREOF.
THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF MAPLEWOOD DOES ORDAIN:
Section 1. A solicitor, for the purpose of this ordinance, shall
be defined to be any person who goes from house to house, or from place to
place, in the Village of Maplewood, selling or taking orders for, or offering to
sell or take orders for, goods, wares or merchandise or any articles for future
delivery, or for services to be performed in the future, or for making, manu-
facturing or repairing of any article or thing whatsoever for future delivery;
provided, however, that this ordinance shall apply only to solicitors who
demand, accept or receive payment or deposit of money in advance of final
delivery.
Sec. 2. It shall be unlawful for any person to act as solicitor
within the meaning of this ordinance, without first securing a permit from the
Village Clerk in accordance with the provisions hereof.
Sec. 3. That hereafter any applicant for a permit to engage in the
business of a solicitor, as herein defined, shall file with the Village Clerk a
written application for such permit, on a form to be provided, stating the name
and address of the applicant, the name and address of the person, firm or
corporation which he represents, the kind of goods offered for sale, or kind of
service to be performed.
Sec. 4. Upon payment of One Dollar ($1.00) to the Village Treasurer,
the Clerk shall issue a solicitor's non -transferable permit for the period of
one (1) year, permitting said person to operate as a solicitor, as herein provided.

Any person, upon the expiration of the term of his permit, may renew same by
paying an annual fee of One Dollar ($1.00), said application for renewal to be
made to the Clerk.
Sec. 5. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance
shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof, shall be punished
by a fine of not more than One Hundred Dollars ($100.00), or by imprisonment for
not more than ninety (90) days.
Sec. 6. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and
after its passage and publication.
