HomeMy WebLinkAboutNo 21 Creating a Department of Public Works, Designating the Officers Thereof and Defining the Duties of Such Officers, -, I -AA LJ 1 114 J_%17 L E 7TJ{ i AN ORDINANCE CREATING A DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS, DESIGNATING THE OFFICERS THEREOF AND DEFINING THE DUTIES OF SUCH OFFICERS. THE TOWN BOARD OF THE TOWN OF NEW CANADA ORDAINS: Section 1. There is hereby created a Department of Public Works which shall be composed of the Town Engineer, the Superin- tendent of Streets, and such other supervisory officials as may hereafter be deemed necessary by the Town Board. Sec. 2. (a) The Town Engineer shall be the chief engineering officer of the town, who after his appointment and until his suc- cessor is appointed, shall receive an annual salary as determined by the Town Board. (b) The duties of the Engineer shall be to draft all plans, sketches, profiles for all public improvements, make all surveys, and do all the engineering work of the Town, not otherwise provided for, and to exercise general supervision and direction over all con- struction and repair work of the department or done under its direc- tion, and also such other duties as may be imposed by the Town Board. Sec. 3. (a) The Superintendent of Streets shall be appointed by the Town Board, pursuant to recommendation by the Town Engineer at an annual salary to be determined by the Town Board. (b) Under the general direction of the Engineer, the Superin- tendent of Streets shall be in charge of all construction and repair work and shall supervise all construction and maintenance employees of the Town, all of whom shall be appointed or employed subject to approval of the Engineer and the approval of the Town Board.
