The concept involves making one change to your lifestyle and diet each week in order to lose weight. As I was reading the book, the idea came to me that this concept could work in other areas of my life including being a better steward of the earth. So what change could I personally make to be a better steward of the earth? I chose to stop using plastic bags, and instead purchased reusable cloth bags and a free-trade woven December 31, 6:00 - 8:00PM basket from Ecuador. Most plastic bags end up in our oceans via drains, sewage pipes and dumping. As part of the collaborative meetings SPRWS provided the citizens with the schedule for remaining work and also contact information for future complaints. It was found that about 95% of the complaints were due to the capping process. According to SPRWS only 3 weeks remain and the weather is favorable. The operation may resume and be completed in spring of 2010 as a result of the wet weather sustained in October. SPRWS will also be working towards solving other outstanding issues expressed by citizen representatives including improving communications. A city council review of SPRWS’s conditional use permit for the site was held on October 12th. The general manager from SPRWS explained the progress made with residents at the stakeholder meetings. The permit for the site will be reviewed in 6 months to ensure conditions are being met and residents are informed of activities by SPRWS. The process to resolve issues was very citizen concerns. Skating facilities and shelters, depending on weather conditions, will open December 26 and close February 20. Shelters will not be open when temperatures reach 10 degrees below zero or the windchill reaches 25 degrees below zero. Shelters will also be closed until the rinks are cleared following snow and when warm temperature softens the ice.
