When Missions Intersect

numerous sub-contractors, the watershed district, a variety of City departments,
commissions, and concerned neighbors, and it could have been a recipe for disaster.
Instead, the missions permeated everyone’s work resulting in a campus that features a
new spiritual home for the Sisters of St. Benedict of St. Paul’s Monastery, 48 affordable
family townhomes and 40 future apartments for seniors through CommonBond, and a
new location for Tubman that serves victims of domestic violence. The campus is about
mothers, children, family and seniors; and trust.
Every Monday, for almost a year, representatives of the above groups would meet to
discuss the work of the last week and the plans for the upcoming week. Problems were
win-win solutions for all parties involved. An update of construction activities was posted
on websites, sent out to a neighborhood advisory committee and shared with everyone
impacted by the construction process.
The process culminated in a Grand Opening event on the corner of Century and
