New Business a. Minor Buildinq Proiect Review - Machine Shed at Bruentrup Heritaqe Farm Dave reported the Maplewood Area Historical Society has submitted an application to build a machine shed to house and protect some of their large machinery and to use for displaying other equipment. He has talked with George Rossbach and Bill Bruentrup, looking at the style and size of the proposed structure and about whether the floor should be dirt or concrete. He also sent a copy of their application information to the Minnesota Historical Society, because of their previous grant for the Farm, but has not received a response from them. Discussion among the Commissioners clarified that the building will be new to the current farmsite as the original building could not be moved with the other buildings because of its condition. It will, however, be in the same relative location - west of the barn and between the granary and another equipment shed. The shed will have five overhead doors will face the barn and will have a concrete floor. It will be red with white trim like the other buildings and will eliminate the need to move equipment in and out of storage spaces in the barn, allowing use of those spaces for exhibits and activities. Dave added that there are also plans to rebuild another small building - the brick smokehouse - which was on the original farm site. The smokehouse was photographed and the bricks were numbered. It was then disassembled and the bricks were stacked inside the barn to be moved to the new site where the smokehouse will be rebuilt. Bob asked if any additional parking space will be built. It was pointed out that the Society is working with the Harbor Point development to the west as well as another nearby location to accommodate visitors for large events. Richard asked if a vote was needed; Dave said not at this point, it was presented only for discussion and comment. AI asked if there would be rebar in the concrete floor; Dave responded that it would depend on the size of the floor and whether the ends of the building will be tied in to the floor. 9. Commission Presentations Lu reported she had received the 'winter flyer' from the Ramsey County Historical Society, and was surprised to see it was nearly all about St. Paul, with very little about the rest of the County. She also said she had visited their new research center and found it will not be up and running for a while. Richard asked if we should be providing them with information about Maplewood and Lu replied she believes it would be better to wait until the facility is completely up and running. 10. Staff Presentations a. March 22, 2010, Workshop for City Council - Update about Local Government Certification Status & Amendment to the HPC Ordinance Dave reported that the material being presented to the Council for their Workshop meeting on Monday was changed to a "Discussion" memo. He went on to explain the background as he will explain it to the City Council and the properties which have been identified as historical. He will also explain about expectations for future properties or sites that could be deemed historical. In relation to the grants which might be obtained through the CLG certification he will explain to the Council how and where they could be used, and why it can be important to the City. He will be relying on Commissioners to assist with the information about the historic properties and will try to keep everything upbeat in the presentation and wait to see what the Council's response is. Richard mentioned there is a quilting bee at the Farm this weekend, and that there will be new exhibits appearing this summer. Lois mentioned that the Spring Tea will be held Saturday, May 9, at 11 :30 and 2:30. 11. Adjournment - 7:35 p.m.
