HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-19-08 delete duplicateApproved: 2/2/09 MAPLEWOOD CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MINUTES November 19, 2008 The November 19, 2008 meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m. Members Present: Marlene Palkovich, Chair Lisa Liddell, Secretary Steve Gunn Others Present: Chief David Thomalla Commission Liaison Terrie Rameaux City Attorney, Alan Kantrud Approval of July 10, 2008 Meeting Minutes Commissioner Gunn made a motion to approve the July 10, 2008 meeting minutes. Commissioner Liddell seconded the motion. Ayes: 3 Nays: 0 The motion passed. Discussion Regarding Process/Policy for Breaking a Tie on Police Officer Eligibility List The Commissioners discussed the idea that a flip of a coin be the deciding factor to break a tie amongst ranking in the Police Officer Eligibility List. Police Chief Thomalla and the City Attorney Alan Kantrud agreed that this is a fair practice and is used amongst other tiers of government to break ties. Commission Gunn made a motion that a flip of the coin be the method for breaking ties on the eligibility list as part of the police and procedures of the Maplewood Police and Civil Service Commission. Commissioner Liddell seconded the motion. Ayes: 3, Nays: 0 The motion passed. City Attorney Alan Kantrud stated he would bring language to amend the Commission's policies at the next meeting so the Commission can formally adopt the motion. Accept Police Officer Exam Results and Certify Police Officer Eligibility List The Commissioners agreed that the ranking process for the Police Officer Eligibility List is very complete and are all very pleased with the process. Commissioner Gunn made a motion to accept the exam results and final scoring sheet. Commissioner Liddell seconded the motion. Ayes: 3 Nays: 0 The motion passed. Commissioner Gunn made a motion to certify the exam results to the City Manager and the Department as the Certified Police Officer Eligibility List. Commissioner Liddell seconded the motion. Ayes: 3 Nays: 0 The motion passed. Accept Lieutenant Exam Results and Certify Lieutenant Eligibility List Police Chief Thomalla went over the "In Basket Exercise," which was part of the process of assessing on the 40 candidates. Commissioner Gunn made a motion to accept the exam results. Commissioner Liddell seconded the motion. Ayes: 3 Nays: 0 The motion passed. Approved: 2/2/09 Commissioner Gunn made a motion to certify the exam results as the Certified Police Lieutenant Eligibility List. Commissioner Liddell seconded the motion.
