MINNESOTA WALDORF SCHOOL City of Maplewood O January 2009 Ramsey County Traffic Safety Initiative The Ramsey County Traffic Safety Initiative began in November of 2008 with the mission of collaboratively creating safer roadways throughout Ramsey County by raising public awareness and enforcing all traffic regulations. All of the law enforcement agencies throughout Ramsey County (including Maplewood Police, Minnesota State Patrol, Mounds View Police, New Brighton Police, North St. Paul Police, Ramsey County Sheriff, Roseville Police, St. Anthony Police, St. Paul Police, and White Bear Lake Police) work together on selected roadways throughout Ramsey County providing high visibility traffic enforcement saturations in order to reduce traffic related deaths and injuries. On November 16, officers from the listed agencies worked a high visibility traffic enforcement saturation on Highway 61 from Wheelock Parkway up to County Road J. On November 26, a second high visibility traffic enforcement saturation was conducted on the Highway 36 corridor between Highway 280 and Century Avenue. These two events resulted in removing 36 intoxicated or impaired drivers from the road those nights. ~- -~`~ The Ramsey County Traffic Safety Initiative is funded through grant money received from the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Officers working the high visibility traffic enforcement saturations are required to wear high visibility traffic safety vests. High visibility mobile signs announcing "DWI ENFORCEMENT ZONE" are also utilized throughout the selected roadways during the high visibility traffic saturation in order to educate the public about the increased law enforcement presence.
