A. CALL TO ORDER
A meeting of the Board of Appeals and Adjustments of Maplewood, Minnesota,
was held in the Council Chambers, Municipal Building and was called to
order at 9:19 P.M. by Chairman Haugan.

C. HEARINGS
1. Board of Appeals and Adjustment (Sign Setback Variance), 1714 E. Cope
Avenue, St. Paul Eye Clinic - St. Paul Opticians - -9:00 P.M.
a. Chairman Haugan convened the meeting for a public hearing
on the request of the St. Paul Eye Clinic, 1714 E. Cope Ave-
nue for a sign setback variance. The Clerk read the notice
of hearing along with the dates of publication.

b. Manager Miller presented the staff report with. the recommendation
that the request for variance be denied based on the facts that there
is no demonstrated hardship which indicates that preferential sign
treatment should be allowed for this particular site and the origi-
nal site and building plans were approved subject to the condition
that sign setback requirements would be met. Under no circumstances
should the sign be allowed to overhang the public right -of -way.
c. Chairman Lyman Coombs presented the following Planning Commission
Report:
Commissioner Disselkamp
stated in the Village Manager's report.
Commissioner Barrett seconded. Motion carried - Ayes all.
d. Chairman Haugan called for proponents. None were heard.
e. Chairman Haugan called for opponents. None were heard.
f. Chairman Haugan closed the public hearing.
g. Councilman Olmstead moved to dew the request of St. Paul Eye
Clinic for a sign set back variance.
