The council interviewed three candidates for the Maplewood Design Review Board: Richard
Currie, Diana Longrie-Kline, and Julie Beitler. The council appointed Diana Longrie-Kline to serve
on the Community Design Review Board for the unfinished term that would end on January 1,
2003.
2. National Night Out
Parks and Recreation Director Anderson explained National Night Out has four major objectives:
• To heighten Crime and Drug Prevention Awareness
• To generate support for participation in local anti crime efforts
• To strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships
• To send a message to criminals to let them know neighborhoods are organized infighting
back.
To create neighborhood camaraderie, Mr. Anderson would like to see this event brought back to the
neighborhoods in the form of "block parties". The city could provide cake, ice cream and balloons
to each neighborhood. The council was in support of Mr. Anderson's proposal and directed staffto
publish specifics of the event in the July and August Maplewood in Motion.
