Chief Thomalla stated the current eligibility list expires November 19, 2010. There are currently three certified names remaining on this list from which one current vacancy will be filled. Chief Thomalla informed the commission that the latest hires for the Police Department were James Parker and Amy Nash. One of the hires prior to these two new hires voluntarily resigned thus creating the current vacancy. Scott Langner is still serving as acting sergeant due to a sergeant still out on a lengthy medical issue. Chief Thomalla stated he anticipates the retirement of a sergeant. Hopefully after the new commissioner is appointed, there can be discussion regarding establishing a new list for both police officers and sergeants. 10. Adjourn Agenda Item 4 AGENDA REPORT TO: Police Civil Service Commission FROM: Terrie Rameaux, Human Resource Coordinator/Staff Liaison SUBJECT: Rotate Chair and Elect Secretary DATE: January 24, 2011 In accordance with MN State Statute 419, the Commission is to hold a mandatory meeting the first Monday in February. This is also the time when the Chair’s seat rotates to the Commission member who is currently in the last year of their term. Commission Member Marlene Palkovich would normally be the next Commissioner to become Chair. However, due to personal reasons, she is unable to fulfill this roll. Therefore, the next in line to become the Chair for 2011 should be Commissioner Lisa Liddell. This is also the meeting at which a new Secretary is elected. Past practice has been that the Commission member in the second year of their term serve as Secretary. However, since this would have been Commissioner Liddell, the next Commission member in position to become Secretary for 2011 would be new Commissioner Debra Birkholz. It is recommended that Commissioner Liddell become the new Chair and Commissioner Birkholz become the new Secretary for 2011.
