Call to Order 2. Roll Call Members Present: Marlene Palkovich, Secretary Lisa Liddell Others Present: Commission Liaison Terrie Rameaux Police Chief David Thomalla City Attorney Alan Kantrud 3. Approval of Agenda Commissioner Liddell moved to approve the agenda for November 16, 2010. Commissioner Palkovich seconded the motion. Ayes: All 4. Approval of Minutes: a. August 3, 2010 Commissioner Liddell moved to approve the minutes for August 3, 2010. Commissioner Palkovich seconded the motion. Ayes: All 5. New Business a. Review and approve backgrounds for police officer candidates and certify names for vacancy. There was discussion and concerns raised regarding the background of candidate #33. Chief Thomalla stated that when there is something alarming or concerning regarding the candidate’s background, they are given the opportunity to withdraw. Candidate #33 did not wish to withdraw. Commissioner Palkovich moved to reject the background report for candidate #33. Commissioner Liddell seconded the motion. Ayes: All Commissioner Palkovich moved to approve the background report for candidate # 38. Commissioner Liddell seconded the motion. Ayes: All Commissioner Liddell moved to certify candidate #38 for vacancy. Commissioner Palkovich seconded the motion. Ayes: All 6. Unfinished Business 7. Visitor Presentations 8. Commission Presentations 9. Staff Presentations Commission Liaison Terrie Rameaux commented on the status of filling the commission vacancy as a result of Steven Gunn’s resignation. She stated that there were four candidates that applied for the vacancy and that a formal appointment would be made by the City Council sometime in December. Chief Thomalla stated the current eligibility list expires November 19, 2010. There are currently three certified names remaining on this list from which one current vacancy will be filled. Chief Thomalla informed the commission that the latest hires for the Police Department were James Parker and Amy Nash. One of the hires prior to these two new hires voluntarily resigned thus creating the current vacancy. Scott Langner is still serving as acting sergeant due to a sergeant still out on a lengthy medical issue. Chief Thomalla stated he anticipates the retirement of a sergeant. Hopefully after the new commissioner is appointed, there can be discussion regarding establishing a new list for both police officers and sergeants. 10. Adjourn
