Approval of Minutes
Commissioner Palkovich made a motion to approve the minutes of the February 6, 2006 meeting.
Commissioner Birkholz seconded the motion. Ayes: 3, Nays: 0. Motion carried.
There was clarification by Chief Thomalla pertaining to the minutes that there wasn’t a need to certify any
additional names for sergeant as requested at the February 6th meeting. All sergeant candidates’ names were
certified at the December 7th meeting.
Review Background of Police Officer Candidate and Certify Name
A background investigation summary was provided to the Commission for candidate #24 prior to the meeting.
Commissioner Palkovich made a motion to accept the background investigation summary. Commissioner
Birkholz seconded the motion. Ayes: 3; Nays: 0. Motion carried.
There was some discussion on some personal and financial issues in the past with candidate #24 which Chief
Thomalla chalked up to life experiences. Chief Thomalla stated he was impressed the most by her perseverance
through her personal difficulties. The candidate’s current employer is very happy with her and does not want
her to leave their employment. After further discussion, Commissioner Birkholz made a motion to certify the
candidate to the City Manager. Commissioner Palkovich seconded the motion. Ayes: 3; Nays: 0. Motion
carried. There are now 3 names certified for an officer vacancy.
Other
Chief Thomalla stated that a police officer will be retiring the end of March thus creating another vacancy. We
are currently in the process of obtaining background packets from the remainder of the candidates on the
Eligibility List. An updated police officer list was provided to the Commission indicating the backgrounds
recently received and those outstanding yet. Chief Thomalla stated that another name would need to be certified,
due to the retirement, once another background is completed. That would likely exhaust the list. He would
prefer to wait to begin a hiring process until there is another vacancy.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:42 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Terrie Rameaux
