CITY OF MAPLEWOOD
ENVIRONMENTAL AND NATURAL RESOURCES COMMISSION
Monday, April 17, 2023

1. CALL TO ORDER
Acting Chairperson Bryan called a meeting of the Environmental and Natural Resources
Commission to order at 7:02 p.m.

3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Commissioner Edwards moved to approve the April 17, 2023, Environmental and
Natural Resources Commission agenda.
Seconded by Commissioner Broadnax Ayes – All
The motion passed.
4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
a. March 29, 2023
Commissioner Edwards moved to approve the March 29, 2023 Environmental
and Natural Resources Commission minutes.
Seconded by Commissioner Lates Ayes – All
The motion passed.
5. NEW BUSINESS
a. Election of Chair and Vice Chair

Acting Chairperson Bryan made a motion to appoint Commissioner Guell as Vice
Chair.
Seconded by Commissioner Redmond Ayes – All
The motion passed.
Commissioner Redmond made a motion to appoint Acting Chairperson Bryan as
Chair.
Seconded by Commissioner Edwards Ayes – Broadnax, Edwards,
Redmond
Abstain – Bryan
The motion passed.
b. 2023 Work Plan and Environmental Priorities
Environmental Planner Finwall presented items the ENR Commission would
likely review in 2023 and 2024 including: An update on the yearly Trash and
Recycling Report from the City’s contracted haulers and to begin reviewing goals
and objectives for a Trash and Recycling Contract Request for Proposals, to be
released in 2024.
The ENR Commission reviewed Strategic Priorities, ENR Commission duties and
responsibilities, 2040 Comprehensive Plan (Natural Resources and Sustainability
Chapters), Climate Adaptation Plan, and Green Step Cities and Gold Leaf
programs to determine the 2023 environmental priorities. Based on this
information the ENR Commission recommended Climate Mitigation Planning and
updates to the Green Building Code as environmental priorities in 2023.

9. STAFF PRESENTATIONS
Environmental Planner Finwall updated the ENR Commission on the following:
a. April 22, 2023 - Spring Clean Up at Aldrich Arena from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
b. May 20, 2023 – Arbor Day Event from 9:30 a.m. to noon

c. June 3, 2023 – Waterfest at Phalen Regional Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
10. ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Broadnax made a motion to adjourn the meeting.
Seconded by Commissioner Edwards Ayes – All
The motion passed.
Chairperson Bryan adjourned the meeting at 8:11 p.m.
