Is the City's plans for transit -oriented development around Frost Avenue and the Maplewood Mall being reconsidered due to post-covid in development and growth? a. Staff Note: Both the Gladstone Neighborhood Redevelopment Plan and the North End Vision Plan contemplated various mobility options for pedestrians, cars, transportation and transit from their inception. Both areas are envisioned to support higher density uses that allow for access to goods, services and jobs. Ultimately this comes down to continued market demand for housing and redevelopment. 2. What is the planned growth/expansion for the Maplewood Mall and surrounding areas (people, jobs, development, etc...)? a. Staff Note: The North End Vision Plan estimates that this area could support up to 2,200 new units of housing and over 120,000 square feet of new office space, and significant rehabilitation of its existing retail structures over the next several decades. b. The growth/expansion for the Maplewood Mall and the surrounding area is developer driven. However, some initial redevelopment is anticipated with the redevelopment of the Myth and future reinvestment in the Birch Run Station area. 3. Has Met Councilor Maplewood considered a Transit Advisory Board made up of residents? a. Not at this time. Question for Ramsey County Staff 1.What types of transit/transportation does the county fund? As it relates to transit funding, the county has two primary funding sources. The first is the Regional Railroad Authority Levy and the second is the County's % cent sales tax. The County has prioritized funding the buildout of its transitway network with these funding sources. This includes the following projects Green Line LRT Gold Line BRT Purple Line BRT Riverview Modern Streetcar In addition to transitways, the Union Depot receives a portion of the RRA levy for its ongoing operations.
