HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-08-17 PRC MinutesMINUTES MAPLEWOOD PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION 6:00p.m., August 17, 2022 Wednesday, August 17, 2022 Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes A.CALL TO ORDER A meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairperson Mallet at 6:00 p.m. B.ROLL CALL Commissioners Craig Brannon, Commissioner Present Vickie Lee-Her, Commissioner Absent Monica Barton, Commissioner Present Terri Mallet, Chair Present Mark Harris, Commissioner Present Kimii Porter, Commissioner Present at 6:11pm Staff Audra Robbins, Parks and Recreation Manager Present Nikki Villavicencio, City Council Liaison Present C.APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA Commissioner Barton made a motion to amend the agenda to move visitor presentation to the first agenda item. Seconded by Commissioner Barton. Ayes – All The motion passed. D.APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1.April 20, 2022 Commissioner Harris made a motion to approve the April 20, 2022 Parks and Recreation Commission minutes. Seconded by Commissioner Barton Ayes – All E.VISITOR PRESENTATIONS 1.Paul Gurule – 4 Season Bike Park Presentation D1 Wednesday, August 17, 2022 Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes Paul Gurule gave the commission an overview of the possibility of using the tennis courts at 4 Seasons as a location for a bike skills park with a few features. Audra Robbins, Parks and Natural Resources Manager, noted that we would look at offering a pop up event to test some features and get feedback from the users. Commission members had questions but were supportive of the idea. F.NEW BUSINESS 1.Goodrich Park Improvements Jess Patrano, from LHB, gave an update on the Goodrich Park Improvements including the results of the community open house. Improvement proposals include parking lot and shelter, among others. Commission discussed the proposal and asked questions. Commissioner Harris made a motion to approve the Goodrich Park Improvements proposal. Seconded by Commissioner Brannon Ayes – All 2.Natural Resources Updates Natural Resources Coordinator, Carole Gernes, presented on a variety of natural resource items including various tree updates, multiple grant updates, pollinator habitat restoration at Applewood and Carver Preserves, Jim’s Prairie restoration, community education items completed and upcoming, and volunteer project updates. Carole answered commission questions. 3.Sherwood Park Playground Parks and Natural Resources Manager, Audra Robbins, gave an update on the Sherwood Park Playground project and answered commission questions. G.UNFINISHED BUSINESS H.COMMISSION PRESENTATIONS 1.Commissioner Harris had a question about the trash barrel enclosures at the Nature Center and how those are turning out (former Eagle Scout project). Also, Mr. Harris had a question about a section of trail through New Century. 2.Chair Mallet asked about repair of a fix it station and Audra Robbins will reach out to the DNR. 3.Commissioner Brannon made a question about the hornets nest sign at Sunset Ridge and wanted to follow up on that. D1 Wednesday, August 17, 2022 Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes I.STAFF PRESENTATIONS 1.Celebrate Summer Event Audra Robbins, Parks and Recreation Manager, updated the commission on the upcoming and final Celebrate Summer Event at Edgerton. 2. Programming Update Audra Robbins, Parks and Recreation Manager, gave an update to the commission on conversations with Community Ed, 4-H and RevSports about upcoming programs and possible upcoming partnerships. Discussion about youth scholarships and YMCA meeting. J.ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Brannon made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Commissioner Harris Ayes – All The motion passed. The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m. D1
