A new Maplewood North Fire Station will be unveiled at a ribbon cutting and tour
at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
Several years of strategic planning and one year of construction made the new
firehouse possible, according to city officials.
"This new facility and operational configuration will serve the city well into the
future," said Chief of Fire & EMS Mike Mondor.
The new fire station is replacing a 40-year old facility, which was "built for a
different era of fire protection and emergency medicine" according to Joe
Sheeran, communications manager for Maplewood. The new fire station is just
one step in improving proactivity when it comes to the city's responses to fire
and medical emergencies, he said.
Some additions include better decontamination equipment to protect firefighters
from cancer -causing soot and carcinogens, a workout space, improved living
spaces for 24-hour shifts, a large community room and rooftop deck. 3
