CALL TO ORDER A meeting of the Heritage Preservation Commission was held in the City Hall Council Chambers and called to order by Chair Boulay at 7:00 p.m. B. ROLL CALL Commissioners Commissioner Leon Axtman Present Chair Peter Boulay Present Commissioner Bob Cardinal Absent Vice Chair Richard Currie Present Commissioner Margaret Fett Present Commissioner John Gaspar Present C. APPROVAL OF THE Agenda Commissioner Leon Axtman made a motion to approve the amended agenda Seconded by Commissioner Fett Ayes-all Motion passed. D. Approval of Minutes from October meeting could not be acted upon, as they were not available. E. NEW BUSINESS 1. The future of the HPC was discussed. Chair Boulay informed the group that we would no longer be video taped. He typed the agenda and there was no one to make up a packet of information for the meeting. It was suggested that we have quarterly meetings at different locations relevant to our commission as long as they were publicized to the public. Places suggested were: The Barn, Library or Nature Center. Richard volunteered to ask the Historical Society if it would be possible to meet there. 2. Heritage Preservation Award nominations need to be in to the commission at the next meeting so we can vote on them. The following were nominated last year Robert Overby, Gary Bastian and Ron Cockriel. 3. Ramsey County Historical Society Membership-Commissioner Fett moved that Chair Boulay would have the membership, as we have done in the past. Commissioner Currie seconded the motion and the motion passed. F. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1.Swearing in of Commissioner Currie and Fett was done for their 3 year terms. 2.Election of Chair and Vice Chair Commissioner Fett moved and Commissioner Axtman moved that Commissioner Boulay be our Chair person. Commissioner Axtman moved and Commissioner Fett seconded that Commissioner Currie to be Vice Chair. Both motions passed. 3. Goals for 2019- Various goals were discussed. Goals at the end of 2018 were submit grant and begin survey work on historic sites and structures, complete and review sign for Lookout Park, prepare application and designate one historic sight. It was also noted the following potential goals-Videos, develop an auto tour or walking tour, document history of important buildings in the Gladstone area, give certificates to Century homes, do a project with the Maplewood Area Historical Society on an event or educational program and make a call for photos depicting the history of Maplewood. We would like to be involved in other historical groups Commissioner Axtman will check into putting the Cemetary on our list of goals after Chair Bouley talks to the Parks Department It was discussed that it would be good to have another member on the group. G. MAPLEWOOD AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY UPDATE 1. Commissioner Currie reported that the Red Barn sale was very successful. The Society Board is looking in to having the Life Time Membership brought back. The e mail Newsletters are not being read by the Society members. The goal is to get information to the Members so there can be more participation. They hope to have a black smith at he Johnny Appleseed event next year. It was noted that at the Red Barn Sale a person volunteered to Bring pictures of the railroad at Gladstone. We need to reach people so they can share items Like this! Upcoming events at the barn are the Pig Roast on October 19 and the Boo Bash along With the Fish Creek archeology dig . The next Historical Society Board Meeting is November 4 at 3:00 p.m. All are invited. Newly elected Chairman Mike Ericson will preside and Bob Jensen will be treasurer. Commissioner Currie concluded is report by stating the cement work had been done at the barn. It was discussed about ways to handle parking so that it can \\ accommodate large crowds at weddings and other events. 2. Commissioner Gasper reported that Mike Marten had promised him that he would let him Know when the group could view the Moose Lodge for the last time. He will check in to this., 3. The next meeting will be November 14. Chair Bouley will inform commissioners of the place That it will take place. H. ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Fett moved the meeting be adjouned.
