CALL TO ORDER A meeting of the Commission was held in the City Hall Council Chambers and was called to order at 7:01 PM by Chairperson Deeny. B. ROLL CALL Commissioners Sarah Deeny Chairperson Present Jon Brandt Commissioner Present Elizabeth “Marie” Garza Commissioner Present Sokunthea Soeun Commissioner Present Amy Stedman Commissioner Present Staff Liaison Paul Schnell Police Chief/Staff Liaison Present C. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Commissioner Garza moved to approve the agenda as submitted. Seconded by Soeun. Ayes - All The motion passed. D. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Approval of the October 5, 2015 HRC Minutes Commissioner Garza moved to approve the October 5, 2015 HRC Minutes as submitted. Seconded by Stedman. Ayes – All The motion passed. Human Rights in the News – Review/Update on Upcoming Forums/Reports on Forums or Meetings Attended or Other Related HR Issues (This item is on the agenda to give the Commissioners an opportunity to announce upcoming meetings or give a report on meetings or forums that they have attended) Commissioner Jon Brandt invited people to vote on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2015. City of Maplewood is electing two new council members. Commissioner Jon Brandt invited people to vote “yes” for school district 622 questions on operating levy referendum. Councilmember Kathleen Juenemann announced that on November 17, 2015, the League of Women Voters are having a police chiefs panel discussion on domestic abuse, mental health and racial profiling. F. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1. Discussion of St. Paul Foundation grant project scope with Wilder Research Chief Paul Schnell gave the report and update. Laura Schauben from Wilder Research, part of Amherst H. Wilder Foundation, presented the proposal on how they can help with the racial equity project. 2. Discussion of police department immigration policy and implications. Chief Schnell gave the report. G. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS / STAFF PRESENTATIONS Chairperson Deeny addressed that there are two open seats on the HRC Commission and need additional members. Supports having a youth commissioner. Chief Paul Schnell gave the report on his attendance at the IACP (International Association of Chiefs of Police) conference in Chicago. Commissioner Jon Brandt commented on the new cameras in the Council Chambers. H. VISITOR PRESENTATIONS NONE I. ADJOURNMENT Chairperson Deeny adjourned the meeting at 8:45 PM.
