HomeMy WebLinkAbout03_06_2001Maplewood Human Relations Commission March 6, 2001 Minutes Present members: Tammy Nadzieta, Joan Wurdeman, Carol Cude, Rita Ander, Elmo Mattox and Gordie Heininger. Ex-officio: Colleen Callahan Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. II. Approval of Minutes: A motion was made to approve minutes as written. It was seconded and it was passed. III. Approval of Agenda: A motion was made to approve agenda with one addition. It was seconded and it was passed. IV. Old Business A. Access Update - Letter from Joan hoping if project is done again, she and her disabled child will consider participating. Side Bar: We rarely hear comments or complaints about our activities or articles. People tend to complain more than compliment. How can we hear more what people think? A letter is being planned for the businesses, telling them what the students found, good and bad. Colleen will draft a letter for us to look at next time. B. Peace Campaign - Colleen wrote to Lynn Elling, giving him names of contact persons at four of the schools. Joan also got a letter and will share it with Colleen. She will notify us if it's a pressing matter. Rita will contact Lynn in a few months, to see if any local schools are becoming Peace Sites. C. Poster Contest Update - One poster is in already. All members have contacted their designated schools. Colleen mentioned that we might want to consider including kids from North St. Paul and Oakdale in our poster contest, since they do not have Human Resource Commissions. All are in District 622 school areas. We could invite the councils to attend. Maybe consider adding more finances, ages, etc. maybe a scholarship. V. New Business A. National Night Out Planning - Colleen called Egan(Loudi) and she would be willing to come and do the games. Colleen will call and ask if she can come to our May meeting to show some to us. VI. Reports A. Gordie mentioned a letter to the editor, which talks about ADA costing so much. B. Rita shared an article about Terry Ventura and Peace Sites. C. April 8 at 2 p.m. last performance Eastern Parade (mixed blood) about 50 people were there. D. Colleen shared materials sent to her from other human relations groups. E. Reviewed final draft of annual report. VII. April Agenda 1. Poster contest changes. 2. Voting of poster winners. 3. Accessibility letter to businesses. 4. Gordie will do objectives and mission statement discussion. VIII.
