September 5, 2000
Minutes
Present members: Joan Wurdeman, Donna Brown, Carol Cude,Rita Ander and Gordie
Heininger. Ex-Officio: Colleen Dirkswager.
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.
II. Approval of Minutes: A motion was made to approve minutes with one minor error. It
was seconded and it was passed.
III. Approval of Agenda: A motion was made to approve the agenda as written. It was
seconded and it was passed. Joan wished to add Stillwater HRC update under reports.
IV. Old Business
A. Peace site review:
1. Neon necklaces were really popular.
2. Gordy was surprised by the Maplewood reward.
3. Kids singing was a nice touch.
4. Even with press releases and calls to TV and newspapers, there was little
publicity before and after.
5. May consider keeping"Peace Site"theme in poster contest, etc. or adding it to
the subject list.
6. Discussed introducing idea of making district 622 peace site schools. Colleen
can get brochures, but each school would have to pay about $150.
7. Rita will draft a letter about making schools peace sites, to share at the October
meeting.
B. Accessibility Project - Joan
Monday, September 25 at Hill Murray. Deliver wheelchairs, etc. at 1:45 p.m. School
is out at 2:00 p.m. (HealthEast Medhand)they will visit local businesses and check
for wheelchair and walker accessibility. Joan will bring a camera to take pictures.
Afterward,we will summarize the results.
C. Recruitment Efforts -Need one new member.
V. New Business
A. Calendar
Inservice ideas: safety for the elderly(against violence); Violence Free
Community-Focus on Vulnerable Adults.
Change calendar items month by month.
B. Objectives/Mission Statements - Comments by Gordy about revisiting our mission
statement- are we striving to meet our goals? (All of them?)
C. Diversity contest review and discussion. Add middle and high school? Opportunity
to add peace theme("What Can you Do?")rap song,poem, etc.
VI. Reports
Joan- Stillwater HRC -brochures on"What are my Rights?"
VII. Adjournment-Meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m. Next meeting will be October 3,
2000.
