Maplewood to hold a primary
election for city council seats
Submitted by admin on Wed, 06/13/2018 - 1:29pm
The filing period closed June 5 for Maplewood residents looking to become candidates for the two
available city council seats.
Incumbents Marylee Abrams and Kathleen “Kathy” Juenemann have both filed for re-election, and they
are joined in candidacy by three others: Kevin Berglund, Tyler Hamilton and Nikki Villavicencio.
Because so many residents filed for the two open seats, a primary election will be held Aug. 14 to strike
one name off the candidacy list before the Nov. 6 general election.
The mayor’s office in Maplewood is also up for election this fall, but because only two filed for
candidacy, there will be no primary election for the position.
On Election Day incumbent Mayor Nora Slawik will be squaring off against Margaret Behrens, who
currently serves on the Ramsey Conservation District Board.
