Old Business A_ Recap ofJointMeeting in April: Members made comments about items discussed_ Marie liked the logo contest, but had concerns about nsing local cable access. Many people don't have cable and the quality of some programs is poor. Ifthe sotmd is poor, it would be very difficult for those with bearing impairments to understand it and none ofthe programs are made with interpreters. Gordy liked the idea of an award to business. Other comments included that it was difficult for us to conduct our own business; we should consider having a youth representative on our commission; and that there wasn't much excitement for a community event. Gordy will send a follow up letter to those who attended thanking them for participating. B. Community event:Regina reported that the Coalition ofEast Metro Community Centers has approached/vraed Blood Theater about a performance for their employees and using the Maplewood Community Center. They would have four performances, one ofwhich would be offered to the public. We could sponsor a discussion and/or reception_ September dates between the 18th and 21st) are being considered. Our costs would be for the reception and a sign language interpreter. We could use charitable gambling monies for the cost of the theater. Regina will get the name ofthe contact at the community center for Sherrie. We hope to learn more at next month's meeting C. Apple Valley High School video: We would be able to use this on cable access channel with some restrictions_ There are concerns of audio and lighting quality and lyrics of some ofthe songs and content of the program may be offensive. The interest level is more for secondary schools and it is not interpreted for hard ofhearing people_ Ifwe sponsor something that well likely receive complaints on)will not look good for us or the city_ Discussion ofthis will be tabled until the fall and we may pursue promoting it to the schools_ Labor & Industry 0i13 23 96 16:ii6 FAX 612 297 1329 D.
