We appreciate the fact that when appearing at Commission meetings, it is understood that everyone will follow these principles: Speak only for yourself, not for other Commissionmembers or citizens -unless specifically tasked by your colleagues to speak for the group or for citizens in the form of a petition. Show respect during comments and/or discussions, listen actively and do not interrupt or talk amongst each other. Be respectful of the process, keeping order and decorum. Do not be critical of Commissionmembers, staff or others in public. Be respectful of each other’s timekeeping remarks brief, to the point and non-repetitive. Seconded by CommissionerCurrie Ayes – All The motion passed. E.NEW BUSINESS 1.2016Demolition Report Building Official, Jason Brash, discussed the 2016 demolition report with the commission. Commissioner Cardinal moved to approve the 2016 demolition report. Thursday, January 12, 2017 Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes D1 MINUTES MAPLEWOOD HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION 7:00p.m., Thursday, January 12, 2017 Council Chambers, City Hall Seconded by Chair Boulay Ayes – All The motion passed. 2.2016 Annual Report Natural Resources Coordinator, Ginny Gaynor, discussed the 2016 Annual Report with the commission. CommissionerGaspar moved to approve the 2016 Annual Report. Seconded by Commissioner Cardinal Ayes – All The motion passed. 3.2017 Goals Natural Resources Coordinator, Ginny Gaynor, reviewed the 2016 goalsandthe commission discussed the 2017 Heritage PreservationCommissiongoals. Commissioner Currie moved to approve the amended 2017 Heritage Preservation goals. Seconded by Commissioner Gaspar Ayes – All The motion passed. F.UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1.Nominations for HeritagePreservationAward Natural Resources Coordinator, Ginny Gaynor, listed the nominees for the Heritage Award and turned it over to the commission for a vote. Commissioner Cardinal moved to issue the Maplewood Heritage Award to three recipients. Seconded by Commissioner Currie Ayes – Commissioners Cardinal, Currie, Gaspar Nays – Chair Boulay The motion passed. Thursday, January 12, 2017 Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes D1 MINUTES MAPLEWOOD HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION 7:00p.m., Thursday, January 12, 2017 Council Chambers, City Hall 2.Gladstone Savanna Well and Interpretive Sitting Area Natural Resources Coordinator, Ginny Gaynor, updated the commission on the Gladstone Savanna Well and Interpretive Sitting Area. Commissioner Cardinal moved to approvetherevised plan of the Gladstone Savanna Well and Interpretive Sitting Area. Seconded by Commissioner Gaspar Ayes – All The motion passed. 3.Gladstone Savanna Local Designation Natural Resources Coordinator, Ginny Gaynor, discussed the Local Designation timeline for Gladstone Savanna with the commission. Chair Boulaymoved to approve the Local Designationfor Gladstone Savanna. Seconded by Commissioner Cardinal Ayes – All The motion passed. G.VISITOR PRESENTATION 1.Maplewood Area Historical Society(MAHS) Maplewood Area Historical Society President, Bob Jensen, updated the commission on the upcomingMAHSevents and upcoming goals from the master plan. Thursday, January 12, 2017 Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes F1 MEMORANDUM HeritagePreservation Commission TO: ROM: FGinny Gaynor, NaturalResources Coordinator/HPC Staff Liaison DATE:February 9, 2017 RE:Gladstone Introduction Maplewood’s Local Designation Program honors and helps protect historic structures and sites in the city that have historic significance locally. Background At the January 12, 2017 HPC meeting commissioners reviewed and approved the application for local designation of Gladstone Savanna. Below is theschedule for approvals. February 15Parks& RecreationCommission Meeting, meeting starts at 6:00PM March 21Public Hearing and Planning Commission, meeting starts at 7:00PM March 27City Council, meeting starts at 7:00PM Staff will prepare and present memorandafor the meetings, submit notification of Public Hearing to the Maplewood Review, and notify residents within 500’ of the property. Staff recommends HPC commissionersattend the above meetings to help answer questions and support this designation. Recommendation No action required. Attachments None F2 MEMORANDUM TO: Heritage Preservation Commission FROM:Ginny Gaynor, Natural Resources Coordinator/HPC Staff Liaison DATE:February 9, 2017 th RE: 60Anniversary Celebration Introduction th Maplewood celebrates its 60Anniversary in February 2017. The Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) appointed commissioners Boulay and Gilbertson to the Anniversary Committee to work with staff and representatives from Maplewood Area Historical Society (MAHS) on a plans for the celebration. Background th The 60Anniversary Celebration is scheduled for Friday, February 24, 2017, 6:30 PM, at Maplewood Community Center(Attachment 1). Anoverview of the event is presented below. Program.The celebration has a 1950’s theme and people are encouraged to dress in 1950’s attire. Social hour and visiting exhibits is scheduled for6:30-7:00PMand the program runs from 7:00-8:00PM. The program includes: 1) a short dialog/skit by MAHS about the founding of Maplewood, 2) presentation of Century Homes Awards, 3) brief ceremony, 4) Trivia Contestwith prizes,hosted by Chair Boulay, and 5) a Sing-Along of 1950’s tunesled by Mary O’Malley. Exhibits.MAHS is hosting several booths and exhibits: 1) 60 Stories of Maplewood – book launch and sales; 2) Artifacts Table, 3) Bow Making, 4) Then and Now photos, and 5) Gladstone exhibits. Staff and HPC are pulling together additional stations: 1) Century Homes, 2) Transcribing History, 3) Coloring History, 4) Video, 5) Take-A-Photo Station. In addition, Bob Jensen from MAHS has prepared a slide show of historic photos which will play during the social hour. Publicity.Announcements are appearing in the February issueof Maplewood Living, Maplewood Parks & Recreationbrochure, and MAHS newsletter. A press release has been sent to the Maplewood Review. Printed fliers are being distributed by commissioners Boulay and Cardinal and staff has posted fliers at City Hall, Maplewood Community Center and the NatureCenter. People with Century Homes received a flier in the mail. Electronic media venues have includedcity’s website, twitter, and Facebook. Anemail blast was sent to about 4000 people and will be repeated. An additional email will be sent to council and commissioners. In addition, Chair Boulay is sending some personalized notes. F2 Facilities and Food.The banquet room will be set with round tables and a screen and podium will be used as a stage area. Exhibitsand booths will be on the edges of the room. Capers Catering has been hired to provide desserts and punch. They will do a selection of three mini-desserts reflecting 1950’s recipes. Volunteers.HPC members are needed to help with the following: 3:30PM - 4:00PMsetup 6:30PM - 7:00PMhelp at an exhibit 8:30PM - 9:00PMclean-up In addition, to the Friday celebration, there will be a brief commemoration of the city’s anniversary at the February 26thCity Council meeting. Thiswill includecake before the council meeting from 6:45-7:00PM in the lobby. The Heritage Awards and the HPC Annual Report will also take place at this council meeting.
