1.CALL TO ORDER
A meeting of the Heritage PreservationCommission was held in the City Hall Council
Chambers and called to order byChair Boulayat 7:00p.m.

Chair Boulay moved toapprove the agenda.

4.APPROVAL OF MINUTES
a.April 10,2014HPC Meeting
Commissioner Curriemovedto approve the April 10, 2014minutes.

5.NEW BUSINESS
a.Open Meeting Law
City Clerk, Karen Guilfoile, presented the open meeting law and answered
questions of the commission.
b.Election of Chair and Vice Chair

Commissioner Gilbert
moved to nominate Chair Boulay as Chair of the Heritage
Preservation Commission.
Seconded by Commissioner RudbergAyes –All
The motion passed.
Commissioner Gasper moved nominated Commissioner Currie as the Vice Chair
of the Heritage Preservation Commission.
Seconded by Commissioner RudbergAyes –All
The motion passed.
6.OLD BUSINESS
a.Historic Context Study
Natural Resources Coordinator, Ginny Gaynor, updated the commission on the
Historic Context Study.
b.SubcommitteeReports
i.Business Award
Natural Resources Coordinator, Ginny Gaynor, discussed the Business
Award with the Commission.
Commissioner Boulay moved to stop pursuing the business award.
Seconded by Commissioner GasparAyes –All
The motion passed.
ii.City Minutes
Commissioner Boulay updated the commission on city minutes.
iii.Local Designations
Natural Resource Coordinator, Ginny Gaynor requested to move the
discussion of the local designations until after the context study is
discussed in June.
7.VISITOR PRESENTATIONS
a.Councilmember Marv Koppen presented a map to the commission.
b.Old Betsy –Gladstone’s First Fire Engine, Bob Jensen and Kate Cavette
Maplewood Area Historical Society President, Bob Jensen, presented “Old
Betsy” fire engine. Dick Juker spoke about the restoration of the fire engine.

Katie Cavett presented on the oral history of the Maplewood volunteer
firefighters.
8.MAPLEWOOD AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY UPDATE
Bob Jensen updated the commission on the upcoming events that theMaplewood Area
Historical Society will be offering.
9.COMMISSION PRESENTATIONS
10.STAFF PRESENTATIONS
a.Grant for Annual Conference
Natural Resources Coordinator, Ginny Gaynor, discussed the grant for the
annual conference with the commission.
b.Sign Update
Natural Resources Coordinator, Ginny Gaynor, updated the commission on the
status of the Highway 36 sign.
c.Photos from Council Presenting the Heritage Preservation Award
Natural Resources Coordinator, Ginny Gaynor, shared photos from the
presentation of the Heritage Preservation Award at the city council meeting and
presented the plaque to Bob Jensen.
11.ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Curriemovedto adjourn the meeting.
