members. There were no other changes to the calender.
B. League ofMinnesota HRC's: Linda and Lynne reported on their experiences at the fall
conference for the LMHRC's on Sept. 23. Both found it very valuable.
C. Roseville HRC Cable Program Update: Sherrie spoke with Mike Hermes, the
representative from Roseville, about the program they have planned to offer on the public access
channel. The show will be 30 minutes and have several segment 4-7 minutes long. We could use
this to promote events we plan. Mike Hermes is going to see if this can be put on the metrowide
cable channel(6).
New Business:
A. January vacancies: Two terms will be up at the end of this year(Regina and Gordy).
Five citizens requested applications for the positions as advertised in Maplewood in Motion.
Sherrie will put on the cable stations and in the Maplewood and St. Paul papers also.
Regina agreed to stay on and Gordy will stay at least one more year.
B. ECFE guest: Heidi Mitchell joined us to describe the ECFE program. It is located in
Harmony Center but there are several sites around the district where programs are offered. It is
part of the community education program of the school district. One of their goals is to serve
under-served families." They are looking for ways to reach the Hmong families, which are the
largest minority community; they are also trying to reach other minority families. ECFE offers a
resource meeting two times a year and we are invited to participate. They will have a meeting in
early November, likely during the day. We could send a represensative. Heidi will contact
Regina to see if she can attend.
C. Diversity Award andPoster Contest Letters and Information: We read through the
materials and made necessary changes. We discussed the fact that children who live in
Maplewood, but don't attend school in Maplewood, don't get to participate. We would like to
reach children in this situation; however, the boundaries for the award is the city ofMaplewood
and the schools in it. We will send the letters and information out in November.

Reports
City ofMaplewood:
A hate/bias crime report was made by the police on Sept. 22, 1995.
Mike asked ifthere was something we should do as a response to the results of the OJ
Simpson trial, possibly concerning domestic abuse. We could have domestic abuse the
topic of a community event.
The City Employee/Commission member and family party is Oct. 18 at the community
center.
The Seniors Committee sent a letter to the city requesting more involvement by city
offices at the open house.
Two citizens have called the city offices expressing their feelings that Maplewood in
Motion is a waste of money. The city feels that it is a cost effective effort. The city
plans to do a random phone survey about the effectiveness of this publication.
A"thank you" letter was sent to the Heritage Theater and Community Education
for allowing us to participate in "To Kill a Mockingbird." Play selection for next
