Maplewood police say one of the two suspects who are believed to have attempted to rob a
liquor store Monday night was fatally shot by one of the employees/owner of the business.
That suspect was identified as 23-year-old Willie Young-Ferba, a Chicago resident whom police
said is believed to have recently moved to Maplewood.
A release from police said officers were called to Princess Liquors on the 2700 block of
Stillwater Road East at around 6:43 p.m. Monday.

According to the release, preliminary investigation indicates two suspects reportedly entered the
business with the intent of committing a robbery. During the course of that attempt, the suspects
are alleged to have begun assaulting an individual identified as an employee/owner of the
business.
Another individual, also identified as an employee/owner of the business, reportedly confronted
the suspects and fired a gun, striking Young-Ferba. That employee/owner has a permit to carry
a firearm, police said.
The release states both suspects then fled the store, but Young-Ferba was found a short
distance away with a gunshot wound. Police officers and other first responders administered
emergency medical care before the suspect was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul,
where he later died.
The second suspect remains at large, despite a search by Maplewood, Oakdale and St. Paul
police. His identity has not yet been revealed.
The employee/owner of the business believed to have been assaulted during the robbery
attempt was transported to a local hospital with what were reported as non-life threatening
injuries.
The matter remains under investigation.
