CALL TO ORDER The meeting of the Maplewood Human Relations Commission was called to order at 7 : 05 p.m. on April 2 , 1991 by Karla Sand, Chair. IT . MINUTES Minutes of March 5 , 1991 meeting were amended to read The Community Bridge invited the Commission to co-sponsor the Disabilities Action Week on April 28 - May 4 . " It was moved, seconded and minutes were approved. III . OLD BUSINESS A. ANNUAL REPORT - A rough draft of the report was reviewed. Areas identified for more rewriting revision) were: Human Rights Award; No Fault Grievance ; Outreach Activities with The League of Minnesota Human Rights Commissions. Commissioner K. Sand will fill in the blanks on the Essay Contest . Commissioner Williamson will revise this draft for final review at the May meeting . Commission members discussed mailing this report to local businesses. B. MULTI CULTURAL/GENDER FAIR PROJECT - Commissioner Vassar reported on what was happening around the state in multi-cultural education. Ideas were discussed on how best to implement this project . Teachers and students in Maplewood schools are eligible to participate. Chair K. Sand will send a letter to the schools in Maplewood informing them of the future project and that a Commission member would be in contact with them in May. Implementation of this project will be discussed at the May meeting. C. ATHLETICS AND HUMAN RELATIONS - Commissioner P. Sand brought to the attention of the Commission thepoorleadershipmodelsthatcoaches , players and fansdemonstrateduringsportingevents . Commissioners J.Garrett and P. Sand volunteered to work together on alettertotheMinnesotacoachesAssociation, MSHSL andDistrict622Administrationaddressingthisissue . D. MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY - Gail reminded the Commission that it needs to respond to the inquiry fromtheMayorontheCommissionparticipatingwithTheCityinaprogramonMartinLutherKingI)ay. E. VIDEO ' EYE TO EYE ' - This video was shown at the suggestion of Chief Collins . The video depicted how racial prejudice and discrimination are learnedbehaviors . V. NEW BUSINESS No new business .
