MINUTES--M/S/A the minutes of the January 2, 1990 meeting. 2. OLD BUSINESS A. Breakfast/lunch--As an alternative idea to the "bring a guest to breakfast" idea, Karla suggested short breakfast meetings featuring a speaker on an HR topic which would be open to the public. B. Committees--There was discussion on forming committees on various topics including housing, racicm (outreach and education) , senior citizens/people with disabilities, students. Scott suggested that we form commitees defined in functional terms. Dawn suggested that a committee or members of the commission should talk with students in the schools. The possibility of sending a letter to the student councils of the local middle schools and high schools asking for representatives was also raised. The matter of committes was tabled until the March meeting. Karla will check with the League or with other commis- sions for ideas on committee structure. C. Annual Report--The commission made several changes to last year' s annual report which is stored in the computer at city hall . Karla will submit the corrections/changes to the city so that we may review the draft at the next meeeting. D. Articles--A reminder to commission members that we want to keep the commission' s name in the Maplewood Review. The suggestion was made that future atricles might be tied to potential upcoming changes in the commission. E. There was a quick review of the cable TV taping done by Scott, Pat, and Karla. We have a tape of the program for our files. Efforts by the commissioners to pub- licize Martin Luther King day were reviewed. The com- mission received a thank-you letter from Human Rights Award recipient Pat Svendsen. 3 NEW BUSINESS A. Karla suggested that the commission consider sponsoring a Human Rights award for a high school senior. Tabled until March meeting . 4 . REPORTS A. Scott reported that the Committee for Seniors and Others with Special Housing Needs had a get acquainted meeting in January. At their next meeting they will attempt to define what exists and put together a 1-2 year plan to develop a model of what needs to be done at the local level . b. ADJOURN
