The morning of Dec. 12, a passerby discovered the body of a man on the Maplewood side of
Battle Creek Regional Park, which straddles the border between Maplewood and the East Side
of St. Paul.
According to a statement from the Maplewood Police Department, just after 8:30 a.m.,
detectives from the Maplewood PD and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension arrived with the
Ramsey County Medical Examiner at the park to investigate.
According to Maplewood PD, the body was identified as Willie C. Hill III, 35, of St. Paul, and the
medical examiner determined he died from exposure to the cold, though toxicology results are
pending.
Maplewood Lt. Kerry Crotty confirmed that Hill did not appear to be homeless or living in the
park.
Police are not seeking any suspects, and the statement from the Maplewood Police Department
noted that there is no threat to the public in relation to this death.
