MINUTES Motion was made, seconded and voted in favor to accept the minutes of the December 6, 1988 meeting as presented. 2. ELECTION OF OFFICERS Pat Williamson - Chair Sister Claire Lynch, Vice Chair Karla Sand - Secretary Motion was made, seconded and voted in favor to accept the slate of officers as listed above. 3. OLD BUSINESS A. Grievances No outstanding grievances at this time. B. Human Rights Award Sister Claire will contact Mr. Schwartz, Assistant Editor of the Maplewood Review, and Audrey Hughes about the presentation of the award at 3M on January 26, 1989. Pat Williamson will prepare a press release to present to the press at the award ceremony. Mike and/or Gail will handle getting the plaque for the award. Pat W will make the presentation on the 26th. Minutes Page 2 January 3, 1989 C. Evaluation of Essay Contest Sister Claire will review the process and put it on another agenda to discuss how we can get more participation. Sister Claire will send a copy of the winner of this year's award to the St. Paul Dispatch and the Maplewood Review. 4. NEW BUSINESS A. New Members Two people have submitted applications for membership on the Human Relations Commission; Carol Engel and Paul Sand. A motion was made, seconded, and voted in favor to forward the applications to the City Council for their January agenda. Pat will send a letter to Mike McGuire requesting this. 5. REPORTS A. Conference on January 20 at Macalester on "Recapturing the Momentum." B. Tenure Gail will prepare the list of terms of the Commission. Pat will send a letter to Mike M on the terms of herself and Scott. C. Commission asked Gail to put an article in the Maplewood Review on membership on the Commission. D. Next meeting: February _7, 1989. E. Pat W will send a final copy of the draft letter to District 622 on the desegregation plan proposed by Superintendent Bennett of St. Paul. F. Pat W will call Ramsey County Nursing Home and ask them to place a notice on their bulletin board about Martin Luther King Day. Sister Claire will call the Maplewood Bank 6. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS A.
