HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/07/1982Minutes of Meeting MAPLEWOOD HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION December 7, 1982 Present: Bryant, Haynes, Larsen, Lynch, Williamson Minutes of Meeting of November 9, 1982. Two corrections were made: page 2, paragraph 2: following - home phone numbers cannot be released - add "without written permission." Under paragraph 3: delete "M.L. attended October Board Meeting." Minutes were approved as corrected. The chair reminded all commissioners that our commission is known as Mapelwood Human Relations Commission; while some of the metropolitan area commissions use Human Rights as their title. Familial Housing - Jim Haynes will send a draft of the letter to all commissioners-for reactions prior to sending to Maria for final typing and mailing. Commissioners' Terms of Office - Maria had prepared an updated membership list which included terms of office for each person. Following discussion, Bryant moved, and Haynes seconded, that Maria Larsen seek reappointment to the Maplewood HRC and that the Secretary write a letter to the City Council supporting this action. Motion carried unanimously. Commission Vacancies - the two existing vacancies on the Commission will be publicized in Maplewood in Motion and in the Maplewood Review. Similar copy to previous advertising will be used. Annual Report 1982 - Brief reports should either be sent to the Secretary or brought to the next meeting. She will pull them together and present for review prior to publication. No Fault Grievances - No contact has yet been made on #6. Peter has been attempting to contact. Meeting will be set up soon to discuss case. Interview was held on #7 and the respondent will be contacted. A new case was presented. #8 Employment/sex discrimination (Barbers) . Assigned to Peter and Maria. Initial interview was held with immediate supervisor. Additional meeting is scheduled for December 8. Other cases were updated: 1 has been dropped; #2 returned to State Dept; #3 returned to State Dept; 4 dropped - no case; #5 no follow up by individual. Is being pursued. It was decided that grievance forms must be updated to keep accurate records and that completed files will be turned over annually to City manger's office. League of Minnesota HR Commissions - Maria reported that she had turned in a response to the President's Call to Action: Peter and Pat will be involved in the direct planning action; they would also volunteer for physical tasks and serve as contacts for legislative support which will involve all commis- sioners. Maria will be contact for Response Network. MHRC page 2 12/7/82 A mileage allowance for NFG case travel will be discussed at the next meeting. Anouncements - the Secretary read two items. (1) a copy of the letter sent on behalf of the State Dept of Human Rights supporting the current NFGP system and encouraging additional training; and (2) a draft of a statement opposing a limitation of terms on city commissions and boards this was not presented to the City Council as the item in question was tables indefinitely at the City Council meeting in November. It was noted that Maria should be added to case #7 and Sister Claire to case #4 on the NFGP listing. Meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m. Submitted by Pat Williamson
