MiNUTEs--Motion rnad�, seconded, and ap�rav�d to acce�t with the addition in III-A tr�at we changecl th� essay cor�test from �-��h to 12th gr«de. III. ULD BLISINESS A. Essay Contest--We receiv�ci three er�tries far tl-iis year'� essay c�ntest. Gail coded tl�e �ssays so tr�at we couid evaluate them wit.hout knowing th� identity of the authors. JE"s essay was judged the winner. Dawn will contact Gail and the winner'� school t.o check into the possibility of presenting the award at the schval. If is presented at C�ty Hall we set December 10 at 3:00 or 4:00 P.M. as a passible time. Dawn will ask Gail to make those ar�rangenient.s if necessary. B. Human Rights Awarr�---Deadline for n��mine�s is November 26. As of November 13 no nominations had been received. Announcement has appeared in Maplewood in Motion and �een s�nt to THe Pioneer Press and the Maplewood l�eview. Gail wiil send inf�rmati�n an t'rcj awar-d to the �rinci�als of 5chools in the district . If norninatiuns are received, we will eval.uate them at the Jecember� rneet.ing. ��. Respc�nse to Acts of Violence and Prejudice--Gdil reportPd tI-�at oui� palice chief said that he w�uld refer any �uch request� to First Call for Help. D. Racial Incid�nts--Sc��tt s�id that he has been aware of r�iore racial inciden�s this fall than at any time in the last �ec.�ade. Ber_ause we suspect that there may be more of this goin� �n in the schvols and in the community at large than we ar,e direc�ly aware of, Gail will ask Mike HerbPrt to attend the first h��lf houz or so of our December meeting t.o give us h�s impressions. We will ask him if he sees any changes fram last y�ar, t�� t.his and his view of what in general is going on in the ��choois regarc�ing racial issues. Scott will r_ontact Kathy Huyen to is7vite her or I7er designate to this portian of our meeting. P�-�ul wili soon attend a session on a Quaker multicultural awa� Fne�s proc�ram aimed at elementar�y and middle schc�al st.udents 0 °< called Green Circles. Applicants far� HRC Vacancy--Gail said that to date four people have expressed an inter�est in serving c,n the Comnzissio;-,. �r�� wi 11 ii�vite them to attend the December meetinc� in its eratiret.y or at 8:c�0, as they prefer. The last item on the Decen��ber a�,*enda will be talking with these individuals to det.ermine whiclz one will be invited to join the Comrr�ission. U. REPORTS A. League--No report H. City of Ma�lewaad 1. rail Y"�CE1VCt� a caiifirmation froni Premier Bank that �l�e will ac�ain donate a$100 cash prize to the essay c:ontest winner. 2. �3ail presented a draft copy of a new hrochurE for the COIIiCTi1SS1Ui7 which the staff put together. We sh�uld let her k�nc�w if triere ars any additions/corr�ctians and then she will hdvF co�ies made. 3. Mi}ce upc�ated us �n the progre.�s of planning fvr the corrutlunity center.
