The meeting of the Maplewood Human Relations Commission was called to
order at 7:10 p.m. by Pat Williamson, Chair.

HUMAN RIGHTS AWARD
Two plaques will be prepared, one for Patti Cibuzar and one for
the John Glenn/District 916 Program for Moderately to Severely
Handicapped Middle School Students. Karla, Pat, Sister Claire,
and Scott plan to attend the Thursday, January 31, award ceremony
at Days Inn, Maplewood.
HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION APPLICANT
1. James Garrett expressed his interest in being considered to
serve on the Commission and described some of his previous
experiences in human rights.
2. Discussion and voting was done for people to replace two
vacant positions on the Commission (Scott Rostron announced
his resignation). Gordon Heininger and James Garrett were
selected to be appointed as new Human Relations
Commissioners for Maplewood.

C. BROCHURE
Logo ideas, audience for whom brochure is being prepared, as well
as content of brochure, were discussed. Bring comments to the
next meeting.
D. HUMAN RIGHTS ESSAY CONTEST
Plans were made to discuss at the next meeting whether or not to
continue the essay contest.
A. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.'S BIRTHDAY
Pat will contact the Ramsey Nursing Home and Sister Claire will
contact Premier Bank to have signs declaring Martin Luther King,
Jr.'s Birthday. Dawn will contact Maplewood Review and District
622 schools for an article to be prepared describing their plans
to recognize this day.
B. BRAINSTORMING
We will discuss at the next meeting new ideas for promoting the
Commission (e.g., HRC Breakfast).
C. COMMISSION TIES WITH CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT
At the next meeting, we will discuss how the Commission can lend
guidance and support to the Police Department as it affects human
rights.
A. LEAGUE OF MINNESOTA HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSIONS
Meeting times were discussed which would be sensitive to the
religious needs of inembers (avoidance of Sabbath or Sunday times).
B. CITY OF MAPLEWOOD
Paul's term was up in December and his reappointment for another
3-year term will be presented to the City Council on Monday,
January 14th.
C. GRIEVANCES
None at present time.
