HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION BROCHURE
We decided to change graphics on the
cover to a pair of hands clasping.
Brochure is intended as
informational/promotional tool to expose
community to MHRC and give means to
contact the Commission. Discussion was
made of type print and adding the quote
from MHRC Annual Report:
"It is never too late to give up your prejudices"
Henry David Thoreau
HRC ESSAY CONTEST
• !.
It was moved that we continue the essay contest for another year.
For a possible $500 scholarship award, we are requested to submit
a letter to the sponsors as to the rationale for the contest.
Next month we will come prepared with possible topics and will
consider whether to award Maplewood students only or any District
622 student.

PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES
Breakfast meetings with featured speakers were discussed. We are
to think of names for possible speakers and whether we would want
to meet regularly (perhaps monthly) or annually. Discussion of
news articles written by Commission members to continue. Gordon
said that he would contact St. Paul Board of Realtors, Mr. Holm,
Executive Director, to determine instances of discrimination.
POLICE
Karla suggested that MHRC provide a list of agencies which can
help people in emergencies for various reasons. Dawn will bring a
list provided by MDHR during no-fault grievance training.
Dawn presented an article published in the Maplewood Review
regarding Weaver School's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day activities.
HUMAN RIGHTS/MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY
Discussion of Gary Bastian's proposed Maplewood Human Rights
perhaps we could tie in his proposal with our interests in
developing a breakfast meeting. We will consider this topic
month.
