MAPLEWOOD HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION

Call to Order
Approval of Minutes - Approved as written. Motion by Pat, second by Mike.
III. Old Business - School District Cooperative Project
Sharon Cox said Grant given to Carver helped stimulate thinking about multi-
culture activities in other schools in the area with exchanges between schools of
teachers and students. Kathy Huyen discussed Joint Integration Project and how
the Maplewood Commission might support their efforts. Also suggested we work
informally to involve Oakdale - North St. Paul people with this project. Sharon
Cox will report further at our October 6 meeting as to how things are developing.
A. Human Rights Award
Mike will check with Rotary for a date to present the Human Rights Award and
report back. Possible second Friday in October.
B. Diversity Awareness Award
Preliminary letters will be drafted by Karla to go to Premier Bank and schools to
notify them re: the upcoming Diversity Awareness Award contest.
IV. New Business
A. MLK Week Activities
Notices at nursing home and Premier Bank.
B. Business Outreach: Gordon passed out draft of letter to Maplewood
businesses re: Commission offering guidance in pre-employment
application. Commission members to send any suggested changes to
Gordon prior to the next meeting for revision.
V. Reports
A. League of MN Human Rights Commission
Received grant of $20,000 from McKnight Foundation to run state wide campaign
against bigotry and hate.
B. City of Maplewood
New brochure from Department of Human Rights.
Commission recognition dinner is September 26 at Maplewood Inn - Best
Western.
C. Grievances
No grievances
