These minutes are being compiled using the memories of those
present at the meeting of January 4, as no official minutes
were taken at that meeting.
The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m., and the minutes
of the December meeting were approved. Jim Garrett officially
resigned, effective 1-2-94. Mike will have a letter sent
thanking Jim for his service.
OLD BUSINESS
Dave Greenman, a guest from Hennepin County, came to speak
about the police internship program, set up to help people of
low income and of color who want to work in law enforcement.
Participants go through two years of law enforcement courses,
and work part time in police departments in five suburbs
northwest of the Cities. Each city decides individually how
they will use their interns. Some are in dispatch, animal
control, code enforcement, community service officer, or have
administrative duties. Funding is on a year-to-year basis
from Hennepin County.
'Those present at the meeting were unsure if Ramsey County has
a similar program. Ken mentioned that in some areas, programs
such as this one run into union problems.
Chemical abuse ordinance: members received a copy of a letter
sent to the city council.
Human Rights Award: February 17 was designated as the day for
the presentation of the award.
NEW BUSINESS
Elections of officers was delayed until a later meeting.
