Marie Koehler - -x-x ��� �� These minutes are being compiled using the memories of those present at the meeting of January 4, as no official minutes were taken at that meeting. The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m., and the minutes of the December meeting were approved. Jim Garrett officially resigned, effective 1-2-94. Mike will have a letter sent thanking Jim for his service. OLD BUSINESS Dave Greenman, a guest from Hennepin County, came to speak about the police internship program, set up to help people of low income and of color who want to work in law enforcement. Participants go through two years of law enforcement courses, and work part time in police departments in five suburbs northwest of the Cities. Each city decides individually how they will use their interns. Some are in dispatch, animal control, code enforcement, community service officer, or have administrative duties. Funding is on a year-to-year basis from Hennepin County. 'Those present at the meeting were unsure if Ramsey County has a similar program. Ken mentioned that in some areas, programs such as this one run into union problems. Chemical abuse ordinance: members received a copy of a letter sent to the city council. Human Rights Award: February 17 was designated as the day for the presentation of the award. NEW BUSINESS Elections of officers was delayed until a later meeting. J OTHER BUSINESS, Sister Claire was sent a letter thanking her for her service. The Commission will advertise for a new member. REPORTS League of Minnesota HRC will have a press conference in Jan. Maplewood's Human Resource Director, Sherrie Le starts 1/24. ADJOURNMENT
