The meeting was called to order ai 7_OS pm by Chair Nlarie Koehler.
A motion to approve the agenda was moved, seconded a.nd passed
A motion to approve the minntes was macie after suggesting that Lynne si�a the minutes with

Old Susiness
in re arati r en house: Marie designed a$yer ativertisi.ng "Saulsjourney" fvr the open
house. Suggesbions an conteut and to add a notice of need for sign language interpretation were
discussed. This will be ma�ed out to our usual ma�7ing list recipients_ Marie has an�anged to get
some bool�arks with a multiculhiral message to i�and out_ The schedule for setting up, staffing
and cleaning up the display waS arranged, Gordy, Carol and C�ail will set up and staffthe display
from 4-6 pm. Lynne, Lnnda� and Re�i.na w1t staff and clean up from 6-8 pru Gra� w�l look for a
brochure on gay/Iesbian issues and Sherrie w�l get the table, chairs and supplies we need_
At this point, Marie left to a�tend her evening class {7-30 pm).
Feedback Qn Awards Ceremony: The ceremonies at Mounds Park and Presentation went well. Ajt
Mounds Parl� one teacher had selected posters ta s�bmit for comperition. Since t�us had
happened, not aII cb�dren who made pasters would get a certificate. Next year we wiil state that
�1 enRries wt�1 receive certificates on our promorional materials.
Ffate Crim�_r���e: The revi.secl proposal was discussed and two revisions were suggested: #2-
"The Comm1scion or the Chief of Police w1I ma� a letter of support to the victun(s)...." aud #6-
add titles/positions and names of. Chief af Police, C"rty M�nager, fiuman Resources O-�ce,
Commission Chair, Hate Crimes Respon�e Caordinator_
A brief discussion on training for commission members followed. Sherrie su�gested the Mort
Ryweck, T eagae of l�irmesota Human Rights CommT�.�ions, speak to our gz'oup_ We decided to
invite hnm to the October meeting. We need to understand what we should say and do, and not
say and do.
Commur� v rrt : Re.gina had contacted iflusion Theat�re and M�ed Blood Theatre abaut
performances they could offer in the fall. After discussing the poss�bilities, she suggested that we
sponser a disc:ussion on race a:nd grejudice fallowing the opening night performance of �'o Kill a
Mc�ckfngbird. Regina has been hired as the assistant director for the summer youth theater
pro�ram. Ttus idea was eagerly agreed upo� Ihe play will be held in the theater of tbe

community center on July 27, 2$, 29. We w11 see if the mayor will be available to lead the
discussion. We would atso l�ce to have refreshments available in the banquet room, whzch must
be reserved. Gail and LynnE w�11 assist �t� in planning this_ We wilt announce it in the July

New $usiness
Tri-Distr-ict Communitv Schoot_ Mar�7yn Vazs joined us to descn�e and explain the plans for the
tri-district mu]ticu.Itiu�I school to open in the fall of 1996. Attendance w��Il be ogen to any student
in bistrict 622, Roseville area schools and S� Paul public schools. The purpose and desiga are
wonderfixl and we fiilly supgort the intent of the plans.

Other d.isc�assion: Carol expressed concern about the di�fficuIty some audience members have
when artendi.ng the city council meetings. When the members discuss things they often turn awaay
from the microphone. Anyone with hearing Ioss rthen can`t hear well vr at aI1. MMilce said that he
wouid address to the counc�l members.
