Old Basmess: A�pproval of dnraial Report: A motion to sead the 1995 armual report to the City Counc� was mad� seconded and pasaed. B_ Ismaik Muslim C�rch r�fe: M�7c� received a few additional negative reports on the request by this group to purchase the old hbrary b�drn� however, the City Council bas approved their request. They have begun some remodeIing, but are not holding services yet. C. Oakdale/Joint C',ammissian mee[i�rg. Lynne arxended the meet�g we wez'e iuvited to by the City of Oakdale to discuss the poss�b�ity of establishing a�tti-c�y HRC. Lynne reported to the group in Oakdale thar Maplewood would l�ce to remain an independent comnnission; however, we vvould be interesrted in wo�cing on joi� projects/events aad meeting joiatty a few times a year to discuss what we were doing. Prior to discuss�ng the c�eremonies, we reviewed a laie submis.sion for the I?iversty Awazeness Award se�d in by a sttlde� group at Mounds Park Academy. Gordy gave permisaon to the school to sead in a late submission and we agreeci thaz they shouid get the award. A su�gestion was made tbat the award money shouId not go directty to the studeats, but through the school to the student group_ A motion to give the 1996 Diversity Awareness Awazd to the Mounds Pa� Academy Studen�t Diversiiy Awareness group was made, seconded and passed. We then disca�s.� the ceremoni�s for the poster contest. The schools with the winners will be contacted to set up a time to hand out the awards and o�t�cates. We were agreeable to the agenda. Sherrie had an addrtional idea for the co�m�rrrity project, usu�g "'ihe 'Theatre for Corporaxe and Comm�miLy F�ucation." They o�er perfo�ances on many topics inclvding domesiic violeace. We discusseci offeang our eveat in the fall, on a Thursday txight. The Cammunity Summer Youth Theater group is offering "A�ne of Gmeen Gables" this year. Regina had some ideas on post-perfartnance discussiony ouuth then and now, gender roles, ch�dren's rights. She also showed a segmeAt of a video-taged program that was put on lry the Apple VaIley H'igh SchooL Ihe program showed several vignettes of issues around discrimination and cliversity. Reports City ofMcg�lewood: The dty has had discu.ssions wrth the county conceming the Ramsey County fau� it may poss�bly be called the �aple�wc�od-Ramsey Couuly Fait' in the firture. The county ha.s requested to have fireworks on the ope:a�ing night of the fair. The CiLy may scale back the July 4 celebration becau.se of this. 'I'he c�y has an opportuaity to bave a booth at the fair wilh repre.5enta�i.ves of the counc� and commission preseuL The fa� is the last weekend in 7uiy. Also: *A Crry-School group has been select$d to re-name the old North high school *Three ne�v police officers have been hired: one femsle (white), two male (one �ispanic, one w�e)_ *Regina asked if there had been azry more incide�ts at the Communit5r Cenier. None have occuffe� but there has been some vandalism. Nezi meeting: Apr� 2, 7 pm: This w�l be the joiui meeting with Rosev�ie and possibly repr�en#atives from Oakdale and Wh�e Bear Lake. At the May meeting we w��ll discuss: open house, interview guidelmes, res�ilts of Agn� mcepng.
