MAPLEWOOD HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION
May 6, 1997 Meeting
Minutes
PRESENT - Members: Carol Cude, Regina Laroche-Theune, Lynne Croes, Gordy
Heininger, Jim Bartingale, Katie Thein Kimlinger; Ex -officio: Mike McGuire, Colleen
Dirkswager; Guest: Carol Wirtschafter, A World of Difference.
I. Call to Order: 6:36 p.m. by Carol Cude.
II. Approval of Minutes: Katie moved to approve the 4/1/97 minutes as written.
Gordy seconded the motion, and it was passed.
III. ,Approval of Agenda: Gordy moved to approve the agenda without amendment.
Regina seconded the motion, and the motion passed.
IV. Old Business:
A. Follow Up on Entertainment for National Night Out Open House -- Colleen
reported that she is no longer pursuing DRUMPAC to perform at the Open
House. Instead, a Hmong youth group will dance in full dress and have a
flautist perform. Other strong possibilities are German dancing, and a
production by a group from the Baha'i faith.
B. Poster/Diversity Contest Awards -- Carol passed out the awards to the
HRC members who will be presenting them to the winners. Carol will be
delivering the awards to Edgerton, Gordy will attend the award ceremony
at Presentation of Mary, and Regina will attend the ceremony at Tri -
District. A suggestion was made to photograph the winners with their
posters and/or checks.
V. New Business:
A. Inservice - Carol Wirtschafter from A World of Difference gave an
informative presentation about the dynamics of prejudice.
VI. Other Business: None.
VII. Re op rts:
A. City of Maplewood - Mike described a disturbing phone call he received
from a woman whose racist views illustrate the type of discrimination
which continues to exist in Maplewood.
B. Agenda Items for June Meeting --
1. Final Plans for National Night Out -- Colleen
2. Set time and date for September meeting
3. Inservice (Remember: the June meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.!!)
VII. Adjournment: Gordy moved to adjourn the meeting, and Lynne seconded the
motion. The motion passed, and the meeting was adjourned at 8:37 p.m.
