Minutes
Present members: Regina Laroche-Theune, Joan Wurdeman, Donna Brown, Carol Cude and
Gordie Heininger. Ex-Officio: Colleen Dirkswager.
I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:13 p.m.
II. Interviews: Rita Ander and Elmo Mattox - Commission feels that both applicants would
have much to offer to the commission and would like to recommend that both be
accepted.
III. Annroval of Minutes: A motion was made to approve May `s minutes with a few minor
changes. It was seconded and it was passed.
IV. Annroval of A�enda: A motion was made to approve the agenda as written. It was
seconded and it was passed.

A. City Council will support our efforts for the City to be declared a peace site, on
August 1, National Night Out. Ideas:
1. Have a winner from talent show from Fair to sing a"peace" song or Sandy
Hinding.
2. Looked at agendas for other peace dedications .
3. Peace Flag?
4. Maybe make contest have to do with how we learn and practice peace.
5. Tie into Maplewood award for "random acts of kindness."
6. Ask Terry Ventura to speak.
7. Flag presentation by Lynn Elling.
8. Send contest winner to peace prize contest at Augsberg College.
9. Fill out application to be a peace site.
10. Find money to be a peace site.
11. Letters to ISD 622 in writing to be a peace site.
B. Gordie - progress is being made with display - 21" x 33" make collages inside edges
C. Accessibility Project - Table tell fall. Unable to get commitments to this in the
spring.
D. National Night Out - 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. - Booths from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Music and food unti19:00 p.m. Dedications at 7:00 - 7:30 p.m.
Joan set-up 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.
Carol & Rita Ander - 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Gordy & Elmo Mattox - 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Joan will say thank you etc. at the ceremony. Colleen will call Terry Ventura
and do press for the National Night Out
E. Recruitment Efforts - Still have one opening, even if both are accepted.
VI. New BLsiness
A. Diversity contest discussion tabled till next meeting.
B. Discussed presentation of poster awards. Unfinished
C. Agenda items for next month.
1. Mission statement
2. Discuss changing diversity contest
3. Meet at 6:30 on September Sth.
VII. A��j'ournment - Meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m. Next meeting will be September 5,
2000.
