Subject: Proposed Emma's Place Project
Date: October 6, 2000
MEMORANDUM
Securing equal opportunity in housing for all citizens is among the Human Relations
Commission's charges as a partner with the State Department of Human Rights. Accordingly,
the Maplewood Human Relations Commission heard a presentation by Carol Banister, who is
on the State Board of Human Rights Commission, aboutthe proposed Emma's Place project
at VanDyke and County Road 6.
Based upon the presentation, and the support and opposition correspondence presented to
the Commission on October 3, 2000, the Commission feels the proposed project and
housing opportunities have been carefully scrutinized and thoughtFully designed to benefit its
participants while minimizing any possible negative impact on the community. The
Commission therefore supports the proposed Emma's Place and views it as a necessary,
positive step towards securing equal opportunity in housing for all citizens.
