HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/14/2000Maplewood Human Relations Commission November 14, 2000 Minutes Present members: Elmo Mattox, Carol Cude, Rita Ander and Joan Wurdeman. Ex-Officio: Colleen Callahan. I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m. II. Approval of Minutes: A motion was made to approve minutes with two changes. It was seconded and it was passed. III. Approval of Agenda: Table N. A. Until next month. A motion was made to approve minutes. It was seconded and it was passed. N. Old Business B. Peace Campaign - Rita talked to Lynn Elling about resources - he was excited about this. He said one effective way is to find one teacher in each school to team up with one parent to go with it. This year's Nobel Laureate meeting at Augsberg is March 11, 2001. The letters have already gone out. Rita will amend letter to the school board and get it to Colleen to send out. Based on the response, will plan the next stage. C. Tabled because Gordie Heininger was absent. D. Tabled because Gordie Heininger was absent. E. Maplewood In Motion Topics - Discussion - Elmo Mattox. Elmo provided a folder for each person containing samples of federal and state regulations that affect businesses. Article topics? Target market? Sensitivity awareness? Joan: Maybe a dialogue "Frank & Jenny" - people would remember a dialogue or story better than an article. We can request to City Manager and Council that the Maplewood In Motion be delivered to area businesses. Motion made and seconded for Colleen to research and bring a draft. 17,000 homes + in Maplewood. Bulk mailing of postcards at .19 each is too expensive. V. New Business A. Plan Diversity Contest - usually assign school now, but will wait until next month. There was a short discussion about adding extra schools. B. Colleen will call Premier Bank about the award money. VI. Reports A. City - Colleen 1. There is a meet & greet new City Manager - Richazd Fursman on December 6. 2. 911 did not pass 3. Any articles for Maplewood In Motion are due two months before the 29th of the month (ex: March's article is due on January 29.) 4. Have one applicant - City Council now interviews all commission applicants. Were more requests for applicants. We can recommend, but the City Council will still interview all. We have one vacancy. Decided to invite candidates to meeting to meet them, then be interviewed by City Council. 5. Colleen shared two incidences that happened in Maplewood last month. B. No new updates on HRC members or other commission effort. VII.
