New Commission Member Interviews:
There were four candidates present We asked them if they preferred to be interviewed as
a group or individually. They were agreeable to a group setting- Each commission member asked
a question of their choice. After we were finished, they left. We made a first and second choice_
Marie will forward this information to Sherrie.
An activity the commission should consider is a more structured process to interview
candidates. We like the informal process, but being more prepared would give us a better idea of
what to look for in our candidates.
Marie announced that Gail hadn't been at the past several meetings as a member of her
family has become very ill. Since Gail has moved out of the city, her membership would expire at
the end of 1995. Marie also said that she had been asked to consider taking a class by her
employer that would give her skills in communicating uld persons °and

FIELD(1)
Dear FIELD(2):
The Maplewood Human Relations Commission is once again proud to sponsor the Diversity
Awareness Award. As with last year, this year's Diversity Awareness Award will be offered in
conjunction with a Diversity Awareness Poster Contest. On behalf of the Maplewood Human
Relations Commission, I invite your school to submit an application for participation in either or
both programs. Submissions are due February 1, 1996.
The Diversity Awareness Award recognizes students and/or educators of elementary and
secondary schools for their efforts to demonstrate an awareness of diversity in our society. The
Diversity Poster Contest will provide an opportunity for students in grades K-6 to express their
insight on diversity in an artistic manner.
Both projects are a cooperative venture with the Commission, City Council and local schools
which provides an opportunity for educators to incorporate diversity into the curriculum.
In the near future a Commission member will contact you to discuss this project and answer
any questions you may have. You may also contact Sherrie Le at Maplewood City Hall (770-
4524) with questions. We look forward to your participation!
Sincerely,
Marie Koehler, Chair
Maplewood Human Relation Commission
