Old Business: A.Follow-tip ort possibility of joint venture with and/or donation from the Maplewood Partnership: Lynne spoke again with Mayor Bastian_ He requested that we create a proposal and submit it to the Partnership. There may be possibilities with one of the high schools.Mike McGuire said the the city council-city manger workshop discussed requests for funds they receive_ They feel that funding from the city should only go to community wide events. B.Follow-up on Jan. 23rd meeting with area HRCs: Gordy met with Mike Hermes from Roseville_Mike was the only one who came. (Regina had contacted White Bear Lake,North St Paul and Woodbury_ WBL was interested, but not able to send anyone That evening;they want to be included_ NSP and Woodbury don't have RRCs at this time.) Mr.Hermes said that Roseville has discussed doing something similar and was very excited that we had invited them. They did not discuss any particular topic for an event. It was decided that we would have a joint meeting of our commissions in April. Gordy had suggested to do this on Apr. 23,but there was a desire to not have an additional meeting that month from some of our members. We meed to do this at our regularly scheduled meeting on Apr. 2. Sherrie will check on room availability at the Community Center. To acquaint the Roseville BRC,we will each offer some information on our commission and our activities:Marie-open house,Regina-theater performance,Lynne-poster contest, Carol-diveisity awareness contest, Gordy-bias and hate crimes. This will be firmed up at the March meeting. Marie added that ECEE would like to be included if the event topic we select fits their purpose_ We also need to get the annual reports from the police department for 1993-95 to determine if there are any trends that we may want to address in our program C.Review ofAnnual Report draft:We will change the contents of the appendices with some new pieces of information that Lynne brought_ New Business: A. Marie felt that it was very hard to hear when sitting in the audience. Suggested that this be brought forward to the council to consider providing a sound system if they do this again in the same room_ Following our time at the Mayor's forum, a citizen approached Carol to discuss some problems she was having with her neighbors. While it appears that the woman is encountering harassment, it doesn't appear that ifs based on race/religion/national origin/etc. It seems to be a neighborhood feud_ A suggestion was made to refer this to the dispute resolution center. Gordy will talk to Carol to get more information. Letterfrom City of Oakdale:Mike received a letter from Ron Rogstad requesting that a representative from our BRC attend a meeting to discuss forming a joint HRC commission with Oakdale,No. St.Paul,District 622 and Maplewood. New member selection process will be tabled until the March meeting Reports City of Maplewood: A group of Ismaili Muslims has requested to purchase the library building on Skillman Ave The city surveyed the homeowners within 350 feet of the building and found several negative responses to this request. We'd like to get more information, such as when they plan to begin using the building_ We will discuss our potential involvement once we get more information.
