A mobile home in Maplewood caught fire early July 29. A passerby saw the flames and called the fire
department, but the home, which was unoccupied at the time, was a total loss.
According to Maplewood EMS Chief Michael Mondor, no one was injured as a result of the fire, which he
said likely started in the kitchen, though an investigation is still underway.
Mondor said when firefighters arrived to the home in the 2500 block of Meridian Drive, it was already fully
engulfed in flames, and was threatening neighboring homes.
A firefighting foam was utilized for its ability to soak into combustible materials, Mondor explained.
“It helps the water to better penetrate the burning materials and aids in suppression efforts,” he said.
Firefighters from Maplewood, North St. Paul and Little Canada were on scene for about three hours
before the fire was completely extinguished. They were able to prevent other homes from catching on fire,
but some siding on one nearby home did melt from the heat.
