Maplewood Nature Center & Neighborhood Preserves, 2659 East Seventh St. in Maplewood offers these events:

• Dazzling Dragonflies and Damselflies — Saturday, Aug. 5 from 10 to 11 a.m., for children ages 3 to 8 with an adult.
This is a free drop-in program. Catch and release dragonflies and damselflies in the gardens and prairie. Use nets
and magnifying lenses to help you catch and observe these amazing creatures.
• Tasty Treats from the Bees — Saturday, Aug. 12 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., for children ages 4 to 10 with an adult. The
cost is $5/person and prepayment and registration is required by Thursday, Aug. 10. Taste different kinds of honey
and sample food pollinated by bees such as blueberries and raspberries. Learn about different kinds of bees and why
they are important. We’ll do an easy and fun bee-count to help the bees with the Minnesota Bee Atlas project at
iNaturalist.org that you can also do later in your own backyard or nearby park.
• Bumble Bee Safari at Fish Creek — Saturday, Aug. 19 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. for adults and families with kids ages
5 and up. This is a free event held at Fish Creek Preserve, Henry Lane and Carver Ave. Pre-registration is needed by
Aug. 16. Learn about and befriend bumblebees. Assist bee experts in surveying bumblebees and their favorite prairie
flowers at Fish Creek Preserve. Bring your phone or other digital device and learn how to enter your bee photo on
Bumble Bee Watch. Co-sponsored by Friends of Maplewood Nature.
• Monarchs in the Prairie — Aug. 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. held at Gladstone Savannah. (park along Frisbie and meet at
Frisbie Entrance). This is a free drop-in program for all ages. Pre-registration needed by Aug. 24. Mad about
Monarchs? Find out why and how monarchs are tagged. Learn about their magnificent migration. See monarchs in
their life cycle stages. Take home some native seed packets to sow that will help these beautiful butterflies survive.

Maplewood Nature Center is a 40-acre preserve operated by the City of Maplewood and is open Tuesday through
Saturday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The Nature Play Yard adjoins the Visitor Center. Trails wind through oak woods and
marsh and are open every day from dawn to dusk. Use of facilities is free of charge. For more information about
